So, I’ve been tilting a bit towards insanity lately. Lack of sleep, 70 + hour work weeks, and not nearly enough time to work on music.

Here’s a tune I made a while back using a bunch of samples from a cell phone, the famous Balinese “Monkey Chant” I found out about from Ron Fricke’s Baraka, Black Sabbath, an old 45 my granddad gave me, and some other CRAP I can’t even remember at this moment.

There is a lot of stuff forthcoming from Crunkster. We’re in negotiations with our boy, “Kaoss” right now trying to get the production sorted out. It’s coming really soon. Crunkster is happening, guys. Keep on the lookout!

Also watch out for the official Tremble Tremble launch party coming on April 10th. That thing is gonna be bananas!

Okay, I’m going to go fix my bike and RIDE RIDE RIDE through this Lonesome Old Town.

So, a very good friend of mine, a very very fine fellow and an extremely talented DJ/Producer from Charleston, S.C. is opening up for Designer Drugs on the 27th of this lovely month. If you guys are in that area, you pretty much owe it to yourselves to go. I don’t know about D.D., but RockyHorror will put on one hell of a show.

Don’t let this be another one of those shows you look back on and and think, “Man, I should have gone to that.”

When I was but a child, my dad used to, on a yearly basis, go down and play music for the Tifton Love Affair. He said typically the other musicians were fairly average contemporary country acts.

Once, though, he came home with a cassette of a musician who had played there by the name of Eddy Navia.

Needless to say, Eddy didn’t exactly fit in at that particular festival in south Georgia. (Dad said he had a crowd of about 3 curious and slightly agitated onlookers.)

Over the next several years, we nearly wore out the tape but not before we had the sense to transfer it.

Navia, a master of the charango, showcases the beautiful and misleadingly complex rhythms of South America. “Copagira” is definitely the stand out track on the album in my opinion though there are definitely no scrappers. If you ever have a chance to pick up some Navia in the store, I would HIGHLY recommend it. Beautiful stuff…

Just interviewed Nosaj Thing prior to his (really early) show at Lincoln Hall. In addition to being a really down to earth and truly interesting guy, he has an astonishingly good ear for eery melodies, and a really really deep bag of samples and live effects tricks that really bolster his live performance.

This wasn’t a DJ set. I felt like I had fallen into a dance club on a space ship with instruments created by coked-out all-night djs from the past, full of badly dressed alien glitch-trash from the future.

If you get a chance to see Nosaj Thing live, do not miss it at any cost. I think he is vitally significant to the progression of American electronic music/hip hop/whatever the hell kind of music he plays. It’s beautiful, it’s dark, it’s scary, it’s grimey, it’s loud, and it’s exactly what I’ve wanted to hear almost every single day this LONG LONG LONG Chicago winter.

Boy, I was REALLY in a hurry to get this remix done. It was like, I knew I was rushing, and though I didn’t have a set deadline for finishing, the rushing and rushing made my life seem like it wasn’t very fun. I mean, I just kept telling myself that the only two REAL obligations I have to uphold are merely living and dying, yet I remained in a hurried state, and I could NOT even begin to tell you why that is…

Seriously… ALABAMA. Amazing band. I used to absolutely LOVE this song when I was a kid. I mean, when it came on the radio, I used to make my dad crank up the volume and sing along with me. In fact, this song was probably (as a small child) my first realization of the power of harmony. (Even despite my parents listening to tons of great music like the Zombies and the Beatles et al…)

This being said, I think it’s a perfect pop song. Everything about it is amazing. The lyrics, the production, the harmonies, the way it makes you feel like riding around in a pickup truck in Kite, GA screaming the lyrics… It’s a perfect PERFECT pop song. (I accidentally just typed “poop song” first, and it really really made me laugh a lot more than it should…)

I mean, just check these dudes out! Then, who could forget THIS GEM! Great band, great song, and an absolutely absurd remix that probably never should have been made. I have been listening to a lot of “Benga” lately, so I decided to make parts of the song somewhat DUBSTEP-Y. This was a bit of an experiment, and hopefully it turned out okay. Here is the question I sent to the Live Chat T-Mobile ”online assistant” today:

At one point, I was covered under Suncom. I am on a family plan, and the whole family switched to T-Mobile. I was given a phone with our T-mobile family plan, and at that point, my Suncom Sim card was unlocked to be used with my t-mobile phone (a samsung sgh-c416.) Since then, that phone has gotten damaged when I rode my bicycle through the rain to see an Andrew W K concert… (I know… I know… Andrew W K… What am I? 12? But honestly, it was phenomenal!) Since my family is all on that plan, I was given another one of the Samsung SGH-C416s that was included with the T-Mobile family plan package from which my phone came. When I switched my sim card over to the new phone, it asks for a SIMLOCK PASSWORD. After hours and hours of research online (which sort of devolved into watching hours and hours of SKOAL REBEL videos… seriously, just search Youtube for “Skoal Rebel” and you won’t be disappointed…) I gave up and decided it wouldn’t be possible to do this alone. I’m really sorry to have to bother you with this kind of crap on a Sunday, but I really need some help. Got any answers?! Thanks for your time, and in all things, always remember that I guess I’ll keep on ramblin, lots of booze and lots of gamblin, but it seems easier than just a’ waitin’ round to die…. -Jamie McGaw (T-Mobile user and friend…)

^Kizzie M: It still sounds like you may need to unlock the Sim to use on the T-Mobile Network.
Jamie McGaw: okay… what steps should I take??
^Kizzie M: I can put in a request for you, it can take up to 24 hours for the request to be completed and can take as long as 14 days.
Jamie McGaw: oh, man… that’s not fun
Jamie McGaw: is there anything faster we can do?
Jamie McGaw: the thing is
Jamie McGaw: it doesn’t need to be unlocked to be used on the tmobile network, because the sim card is already unlocked
Jamie McGaw: it works fine in my water damaged phone
Jamie McGaw: it’s just that the PHONE’s keypad doesn’t work, so I can’t really use that phone anymore
^Kizzie M: All we can do is hope that it doesn’t take that long. Pretty much the only reason it would take that long is if we have to contact another Manufacturer, but since we are technically the Manufacturer it should go pretty fast.
Jamie McGaw: but I have another phone that is the exact same model phone. The sim card is already functional on the tmobile network… it just won’t function in the other phone
^Kizzie M: Does it say anything about a PUK Code?
Jamie McGaw: No.. it just asks for the simcard password… nothing about IMEIs or PUKs
^Kizzie M: Did you set a password to your Sim Card in the other phone?
Jamie McGaw: yes
Jamie McGaw: I set it to 00000000
Jamie McGaw: but that still doesn’t work in the new phone
